Devil’s Purse Brewing Company to open spring 2015 on Cape Cod
New craft brewery plans to produce and sell handcrafted beers at facility located at 120 Great Western Road in South Dennis, Mass. Beer styles will focus on classic and American style ales.
SOUTH DENNIS, Mass., --Local beer lovers on Cape Cod and around the region will soon have another craft brewery to add to their tasting list when Devil’s Purse Brewing Company opens its taps to the public in the spring of 2015.
“This is an exciting time as our equipment arrives and the space is beginning to look like a brewery,” said Matthew Belson, co-founder of Devil’s Purse Brewing Company. “We still have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks such as hooking up the equipment and brewing test batches of beer before we can start full production.”
The idea of starting Devil’s Purse Brewing Company began in the kitchen when Belson, 43 and co-founder and fellow Harwich resident Michael Segerson, 40, started homebrewing together almost four years ago. What started as a hobby quickly became an obsession with the two friends and fostered their goal of starting a craft brewery on Cape Cod.
“We have spent a lot, I mean a lot, of time brewing together and all we talked about was beer and how amazing it would be to open up our own small craft brewery,” said Segerson.
Along with brewing beer together Belson and Segerson traveled extensively to craft breweries in New England and around the country to meet with professional brewers to learn about the industry and the requirements for commercial brewing.
Located at their 5,500 sq. ft. facility at 120 Great Western Road in South Dennis the brewery will use a 7-barrel brewing system and plan to distribute to local Cape Cod pubs and package stores. Packaged beer, including growler fills, will also be available for retail purchase at the brewery. Beer styles will focus on American influenced ales as well as classic European ales and lagers.
“Our focus is taking high quality ingredients and making flavorful, delicious beer that can be enjoyed in any season, with any meal or on any occasion,” said Segerson.
With work ongoing at the production facility craft beer lovers should be able to have a growler filled at the brewery or a pint poured at a local pub sometime by late spring of this year.
“Launching Devil’s Purse Brewing Company has been an incredible journey and we are just anxious to start brewing beer,” said Belson. “We think Dennis is a fantastic town and we cannot wait to share our beer with our local and greater Cape community.”
